Ping Testing ISPs (help a gamer out)

    Hi Folks,

I'm currently moving house and on the hunt for the best Internet Service provider for routing to the US.

I play competitive tournaments for Midair Community Edition (check it out https://midair.gg/) - It's like tribes fyi.

With most of the tournaments being US based I get a ping disadvantage which I'm fine with but I believe there could be some way to improve it, I ping 120ms to the New York Gaming server. I have noticed that players in the UK ping 80ms to the same server this is due to the routing of the ISP.

As you can see from the below image (not sure if I can post images so i've linked it) my routing goes to the uk then back to the server in New York, hence why I ping 120ms and the UK ping 80ms.
    https://www.submarinecablemap.com/#/submarine-cable/gtt-atlantic

I'm wondering if there is an ISP that routes directly to the US instead of going to the UK first?

Again I'm not sure if I'm aloud post this but if people could ping test the New York gaming server: 149.28.63.92:27016 by running the windows cmd and enter ping 149.28.63.92:27016 and posting the average ms of the ping, if someone pings around 80ms I'm on to a winner.

I'm hoping that a provider IE (eir, virgin, sky, vodaphone, puretelecom routes to the US directly instead of to the uk.
Which would be this routing: https://www.submarinecablemap.com/#/submarine-cable/havfrueaec-2

Any help or advice would be appreciated :)

I'm getting 85ms on Eir. I'm not sure of the routing, but a Traceroute doesn't appear to suggest anything in the UK. What ISP are you using?

Thanks for the reply, 85 doesn't seem too bad, I'm with virgin media 250mbs, seems to be a bit off from the poster above as I'm getting 115ms from it. Interested to see what sky or vodphone pings to it

Getting average 83ms on Vodafone (SIRO). Think its going via UK though, traceroute shows ldn-bb4-link.telia.net as a hop

Virgin are bouncing via London. Always have to my memory.

Eir are a disaster but their peering beats Skys hands down. Their facility is on top of the landing point too so that helps. VF I'd call a mixed bag.

The thing you're missing is this the time of day. Its 6:45 AM central time now. Say comps are likely to start at 8 central then its 2AM Irish time. Before COVID I'd say you'd be in luck, now Im not so sure.

Thanks again for the pinging guys, is there anyone with pure telecom siro who could ping test it? I presume it would be similar to dam099?

Tried again 19:49 - peak traffic time - still getting a steady 84ms average from Eir. I know a lot of people complain about Eir, but I found their performance absolutely rock solid right through the two lockdowns - never any sign of congestion or latency. I never really have any cause to contact customer care other than once a year to renegotiate my contract. In my experience their products work. I had to hold a bit longer to get through this year, but they were helpful and renewed my contract at a reasonable tariff. Not as competitive as for new customers, but discounted enough to justify staying with them for the good performance.
