A friend of mine has a Fiat Punto and its not going through the NCT. The first NCT test threw up one emission so she got a new lambda sensor. The second NCT through up worse emissions. I think I have them in the right order as I am going off the printing dates on the bottom of the certs.

Anybody got any ideas, I think her mechanic is not great.

Has the car had an oil change recently? If it failed on lambda sensor and the part was replaced, I would look for a loose connection. I would also have a look at the MAF or MAP sensor depending on which system the car uses. If you want to have a look yourself a MAF sensor can be found around the air box, it'll be clipped into the air intake tube somewhere near there. If there's none there then your car uses a MAP sensor usually inside the intake manifold.

Looks like its running lean but HC and CO still too high.

Any holes in the exhaust? Burning oil? Knackered cat with a hole in it?

She knows very little about the car. I will ask her when I see her. She is around tallaght / citywest if anybody knows someone local who is familiar with this. She needs it fixed as she works weird hours and if she gets pulled with no NCT she could be in trouble.

how did a headlight fail major ?

sounds like it probably hasn't had a propper service in a while, get the oil and filters done at a decent garage, put a bit of dipetaine in a half tank of fuel and drive it for 30-40 mins to properly heat up. might just pass.

yea car needs a full service. oil and air filters. sparkplugs. no harm to change out sensors. check condition of exhaust system.

She needs a better mechanic, id be looking for holes in the exhaust after the manifold and then something maf/map potentially as said above, lambda needs graphing
