Is there a certain distance that you cannot build near an an existing dwelling to avoid over development in the countryside. What would that distance be.
    Thanks

"over development" is a catch all for many issues.

distances between dwellings is not really one of them.
typically urban houses should be approx 2.5m apart

if the house is in the countryside and your narrow frontage means that you will only have walking space around the house, then the site is probably unsuitable.
"rural houses" ie houses on their own effluent systems, generally have minimum site areas and / or site frontage prescribed in the county development plans.

clare co co has a min frontage of 30m and area of 0.5 acres for most rural dwellings
