Log Cabins planning permission

    Hi all, looking for information if anyone has built a log cabin on family property within city bounds?
    What was required to get planning permission up and going? Is it easy to get approved or is there a bit of difficulty? I've tried googling and there's not much on it. The local planning office just told me I need to apply for permission but didn't extend any further then that.

    Also with your cabin what type of insulation did you get? Did you let the cabin company do it or seek out independent workers for it? Trying to make it the most cost efficient that I can

    Thanks in advance!! All suggestions and knowledge on cabins would be much appreciated!

    Unusual question, I don't think it's ever been asked about before on boards :D

    Tip - use the search function and you will find dozens of threads with every piece of information that you need

    Depends on what kind of garden shed you want.
    What you plan on doing in the shed. Hobbies, home gym, study, games etc.

    Cabins = garden sheds.

    For good reason. A shanty wooden home in the back garden is not proper development.

    Now, if you have land that’s viable for a dwelling, and you want that cabin look that can be a possibility but I bet it’s far from the log cabin websites your currently looking at.

    The long and the short of it is that you won't get planning permission for one, councils don't believe that they can meet building regs. Once there is running water connected to it or over 25 m2 it will be classed as a dwelling.

    I'm speaking from experience, currently living in a 3 bed cabin but I live in the country, spoke with neighbors to make sure there was no issues.

    I bought the cabin as a flat pack kit and built myself

    I'd go for a granny flat just to not be paying crazy rent prices but won't exactly get much of a proper dwelling out of 25k

    Its under 25m2, neighbours are fine but I live in the city. My parents have a big side garden as well as a back garden but it is still in a housing estate

    Granny flats are extensions to the main dwelling
