Curtains for Sash Windows with MHRV.

Have a house which I've upgraded to MHRV, and good insulation all around. Dry lining to the existing walls. The only weak point in terms of U Values are the sash windows, which I'm now looking into ordering curtains for. None of them have radiators below them. They do have draught proofing on them, and are reasonably airtight as far as sash windows go.

I have two thoughts on this.

    1. Order thick curtains running to the floor with pelmets above to block as much air as possible getting behind them. Minimising heat loss.

    2. Have curtains set forward a little from the windows, allowing the MHRV to create a certain amount of airflow between the curtain and the wall to reduce the risk of condensation and mould. (This could have the opposite effect though and encourage more humid air to condense)

I've had all sorts of issues with mould forming on window frames in other places I've lived, so trying to find a good solution here.

I think option 2 is nice in theory but you can get lovely heavy curtains now for a good price and they may get a bit moldy over time but it wont be so easy to see so Id go for option 1.
