    Hi All.
What would being invited to a phone conversation with a case officer entail? I am receiving JSA.
Just wondering i.e is this the new way of signing on since covid has left the offices mostly closed? Has anyone else received the same or similar request? Thanks!

Case officers refer people to schemes such as job path, CE, Tus etc. They may want proof that you have been applying for jobs.

Thanks for replying. Would referral to those schemes not be automatic and done by email? Not really sure why a phone call with the officer is necessary, I can email proof of applying to positions etc too. Any idea if it’s a new way of just signing on instead of physically going to an intreo centre? As I heard they’ve been postponed to January or something

It'll be a chat about what jobs you have been applying for and if there's any training you would like that they could help with. They may also suggest places for you to apply to.

No none of those. But do you know if the outcome of the phone call will likely lead to them? Because I’d rather continue my search myself, haven’t heard great reviews of these services and was under the impression the gov was winding them down anyway ...

No. They got an extension of another year.

I don’t know if you’ll be referred. It’s not a great time to be job hunting! Good Luck.

Was that extension of a year not done last December?, I thought it was so basically ending shortly, also, according to the Minister responsible, no new referrals have taken place since last March. I also thought the years extension was only related to existing clients, not new ones. Just curious

Referrals are still happening. A friend of mine, 3 months short of her 62nd birthday was referred recently. She was only signing on for a few weeks!

Just rereading that link and it says that people who have been on the live register for 12 months or more are referred. My friend hasn’t been on the live register over 12 months.

Thanks, I understood the extension was from 2019, yes I have a neighbour (62) absolutely plagued although he has been on their books well over a year. It's all moved online and via telephone which I find extraordinary, my neighbour can barely send an email, let alone send a WhatsApp message, spent his life in construction.
