Car heater not getting fully hot

Over the past week I've noticed my 172 Skoda Octavia 1Ltr Petrol's heater doesn't seem to warm up fully, at best it's a bit warmer than cold but nothing like it used to be. The car only has 43000km on the clock, and was bought from main dealer. Had it serviced with main dealer 2 months ago.

Any idea what could be causing it? And is it likely to be expensive to fix?

    Thanks in advance

could it be a stuck thermostat? wouldn't be a huge problem.

    Check coolant level.
Also you may want to make sure there is no air trapped in the system.

Could be a fairly big problem - google VW silica bag coolant. Not sure if a 2017 Octavia is one of the cars that issue that can happen to.

Also your coolant level could be low.

Does the engine get to temperature as usual?

Assuming you have enough coolant do you have climate control or manual heating controls?
Has the pollen filter been changed? Sluggish airflow will impact on heater performance. Does the coolant still look nice and clean? Hopefully it isn't the dreaded silica bag issue,I'm not sure the petrols had it fitted.

How long are the journeys you do? It's got a lot colder over the last few weeks so the car will take a lot longer to warm up. A co worker used to have a diesel that never got warm air doing a 20km trip in winter.

You should have a 2 yr warranty from the main dealer, bring it back to the main dealer, get them to check it out

Yeah, my money is on that. Classic symptom of the sludging issue.

Being 172 i'd say it's outside of it's warranty by the skin of it's teeth.

I'd take it to a dealer for an opinion asap.

I didn't think the petrols had the silica bag in them. Ironically if it's VW Skoda Ireland warranty, they dont cover it under their own warranty....hopefully it's a dealer backed one. Has the coolsnt turned a sludgy black colour? If that is the problem it's a big bill and you may be ready to kick up a huge row.

The petrols do have it too, anything with "for life" coolant does.

Skoda's manufacturers warranty does cover it. Skodas approved used warranty doesn't but the supplying dealer should be covering it locally.

They do. Some GTi's have it.
