Can I use a Samsung Galaxy Tab A, tablet to control this drone. It's a present so don't want to open it. Cheers

Here is the list of supported devices... https://www.ryzerobotics.com/tello/downloads

It doesn't appear to be on it, but you should try and download the app anyway and give it a go!

Also states "not available for android tablets".
I don't see any Xiaomi phone listed but I've flown a Tello with a Xiaomi before so it may work.

The thing is, it's a Christmas present so I don't want to open it up and test it, the guy in the shop said it would but I might just bring it back for an refund.

Works grand on my old Huawei M3 tablet
    I also use Drone Blocks - https://www.droneblocks.io/apps
    and Tello FPV on android
All work well, the main gotcha for the Tello is flying over water, it can really screw up the Optical Flow sensor that it uses to maintain position by taking an image of the ground below, so the moving water confuses the drone and can trigger an unwanted and wet automatic landing!

It's gone back to the shop this morning. The search continues

Is the Samsung Tab the present or the drone, or is it both?

If its just the drone, your best bet is to find somewhere that would let you try it out with the Samsung tablet you already have.

Found this thread on the subject albeit about the Mavic Pro: https://mavicpilots.com/threads/samsung-galaxy-tab-a-help.29718/
