iPhone 12 mini and wireless charging

I bought fairly expensive wireless chargers for the house and car for my iPhone XR. I got a new iPhone 12 mini and it won’t charge in either. The chargers aren’t apple brand but good enough. Does anyone know do the new iPhones only charge wireless on apple wireless chargers?

Just tried my mini and it works on my 2 year old wireless charging dock (non-Apple).

I think the inductive coil is lower down in the mini.
I have an anker charging stand and I have to reposition the mini to get it to work.

If you look at the MKBHD video he uses a Pixel stand and it's too small to work. As said above that might be it.
