I have spotted a nice car id like to buy its a private sale, its about 2 hours away so my thoughts are is this something deemed essential or no? I know there are some people offering pick up / delivery but that is more or less buying without any inspection! kills the bargaining side also.

I see no issue with travelling to see it. It would want to take a very anal guard to turn you home.

By rights you shouldn't go, but you'll get away with it if that's what you mean.

Not in any way essential, dealers are open for service and parts at the moment but not for sales, as far as I know.

That said, if I wanted to change my car and spotted something I wanted to buy, I'd go ahead and do it. What are you going to come into contact with, one other person? Maybe a bit outside of guidelines to do a test drive with owner in car too but if the sale is right for you, I'd go ahead and try it. Just have a story, don't tell a guard you are going to look at a car when your own is running pefectly.

Yeah, i would / will wear a mask if the owner was to come along. My car is actually broken at the moment decided it didnt like mondays! I was looking at a car further away again though at a dealers and he said he is open by appointment still and that i should have no problem from gardai if stopped "just tell them you are collecting your car" is what he said
