Upgrading to a newer estate car

    Hi All,

I'm currently driving a 2L diesel 2008 VW Golf estate that I've owned since 2017. The mileage was quite high when I got it but it's sitting at 230,000 miles now and starting to show its age with repairs becoming more common.

I'm hoping to upgrade in the next few months to something newer that I'll get another few years out of. My criteria are below:

    - 2013 or newer.
    - Decent bit of power. I've gotten used to the 2L turbo diesel in the Golf after coming from a 1L petrol Polo!
    - Some toys like cruise control, aircon, reversing sensors if possible.
    - Diesel preferably as I do quite high mileage but I'm not up to speed with the efficiency of the more modern petrol cars.
    - 10k budget

I've had a quick look around Done Deal and other places and the Seat Leon seems to suit my needs best but they are rare enough with low mileage. An Octavia is another option. Can anyone recommend other makes and models? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've never owned or driven a Megane before. Any idea what the yare like compared to a Golf when it comes to comfort on long trips?

Another model I saw around was the Seat Exeo which as far as I know is just the older Audi A4 body rebadged but I think it shares a lot of the same components so would be pretty high spec. They look pretty ugly with the Seat badge though!

I've been looking around for more or less the same as OP. Half tempted by one of these.

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars/Honda/Civic?year_from=2011&year_to=2018&bodyType=Estate

Not many within OPs budget, at least they will be fresher than his min requirement.

If diesel was not required, would

fit the bill ? and if so how do insurance companies look on them ?

They have the newer common rail engines too.

At this stage they’re not far off B8 A4 money so what’s the point!

Huge missed opportunity. The old A4 was a nice handy size and for its time had a great interior. Anything SEAT touched on it styling wise they ruined.

Skoda Octavia or superb would be a good bet op. The megane very light and not near as powerful.

I miss having power as I'm stuck with the megane.

Not sure if I could see myself driving that Jazz. I think that's one of the ugliest cars I've ever seen 😂. Didn't know they made the newer model Civics in estates so I'll look into those too. Thanks!

Agree that the 'Jazz estate' looks weird plus it would be a secondhand Jap import so may or may not have english language plus the radio wouldnt be right plus insurance Cos may have a funny attitude to it. On the positive side : it struck me as a very clever and practical car.

( I was buying a civic estate just before the first lockdown ... and then everything changed :( )

You don't say but what is your annual mileage?? And I'd also suggest a superb or octavia. Super reliable, cheap to tun and good everyday no nonsense.

I had a megane and changed to a superb. Boot space is huge on the superb and its more comfortable.

My two pence worth is forget about the megane.

To change a bulb or timing belt is a nightmare..

Sorry, my annual mileage would be approx 15-20k miles. Mixture of all kinds of roads.
