Auto gearbox in A6 - rattling sound when in drive

    Just looking for a bit of diagnostics...

    I have an A6 with an auto gearbox but I get a rattle whenever I select D or R. It can be heard when the gearbox is under load at low speeds. When in neutral, the noise disappears so its only when the gearbox is under load. Any thoughts?

    You could pop the surround off and see if you can pinpoint the noise then.

    Are you keeping up with the maintenance schedule for the transmission? They will give trouble if the oil and filters not changed on time.

    The main dealer has had the car twice now. The mechanics have tried numerous things but cannot locate the issue, so are getting in a gearbox specialist!

    Thankfully the car is under warranty!

    A warranty may prove valuable in your case. Auto transmission problems can be costly to put right. Does the car have an S Tronic or Multitronic transmission?

    Multitronic. 2013 A6, so just before they brought in the S Tronic. Yes deffo the warranty is very valuable here and that’s why I’m pushing to get it fixed now, and properly so it doesn’t show up after the 12 month warranty is up!
