Former shops and businesses in Wexford which you remember?

The pandemic has unsurprisingly seen a fair share of businesses stop trading and it made me think about some of the well known businesses in Wexford which have closed their doors, either during Covid or in times past. The one that I remember best is Webbs in Gorey. They had their main shop on the Lower main street with toymaster just around the corner on St Michael's road. Both my parents and my Uncle knew the late Mr Webb and his family.

Two other shops which I remember were in Wexford town, namely Dave Allen cycles on South main street and Ned Buggy sports on Selskar street beside the book shop. There is a Regatta store now where Ned Buggy sports used to be. I am open to correction on this but Dave Allen cycles is closed now or did he just move to a different premises elsewhere in Wexford?

The Star bakery was great on South Main St.

The M&J on the main street. Every Saturday go for my breakfast there with my granny. Some place. It's where lifestyle is now I believe

Hertrich's butchers on the Main Street had the most amazing sausage rolls. I've never had anything come near them

Ned Buggy has a premises in Cinema Lane (as it's known), the lane beside Costa Coffee on South Main Street. Dave Allen went out of business and I don't know what he's doing now.

Nolan's shop (recreation joint?)on main street opposite Hore's stores, just on the corner. That place had some memories with it. Mrs Nolan took no ****, but if she knew your ma you felt you were in the good books. old shilling coins for the table football - deadly serious and high skill levels on display. A real jukebox playing real 7 inch records (mod, ted and punk) & a respectful silence for the shots on the pool table. And a quarter of apple drops. That was the closest we got to a youth club in them days. Best shop ever.
