Spotted a bird out the back I’d never seen before looked like a brown magpie, looked it up and it’s actually a Jay, considering I’ve never seen one before hie rare are these ? I’m in killiney, Dublin

Would they attack other birds? Spotted a lot of feathers out the neighbours back around the same time. Looked like some sort of attack

they're usually shy woodland birds. this time of year they'd be storing acorns - from a quick google, they're omnivores, but would really only prey on small rodents and baby birds.

Kiliney Hill has them, as mentioned, not easy to see and very shy.

The feathers in your neighbors back are probably a sparrowhawk job.
