The house previously had no radiators, just an open fire and range. I haven't a notion on plumbing costs but I am just checking to see whether the following would be the going rate for a plumbing job:

    Bungalow is 118 sq metres
I am going the oil route as follows:

    Oil Boiler
    200 litre cyclinder
    Oil Tank
1st and 2nd Fix Plumbing and Heating
    10 radiators
    3 Heating zones
    Boosted Hot and Cold Water
Total quoted cost is €12.5k including Vat

The cost doesn't include any digging of floors for pipes to radiators.

    Labour only or all in?

If it includes materials, then the spec/brand of the items quoted would help to indicate value or not.

Yes that's all inclusive with labour included.

I was thinking a good Oil burner could be bought for €1,200, cyclinder €400 and Oil Tank €300. Its still a long way off the quoted price. Maybe copper fittings have gone up a good bit in price in recent years but I'd imagine €2,000 worth would buy alot of it.

Booster pump (Boosted hot and cold supplies)

Pressurised cylinder (more expensive than standard type)

Depending on size of the rads and length of the runs back to the manifold (if using a manifold system) so hard to quantify costs here...

    Piping and lagging as above...

The type of controls selected on the heating, you mentioned zones... So possibly motorised valves, stats...

Find out specifically what boiler model or at least the kw/btu
Size of the oil tank... You can start comparing then.

Really hard to say with accuracy but what I would say is to get a number of quotes from different companies/sole traders and compare. Insist on a break down of the quote also, labour and materials itemised separately.

Thanks for that post. I suppose there is lower/higher spec in alot of things and I will enquire more but trusting the Plumber's judgement will be important. I still feel €9k/€9.5k plus VAT would be around a fair price considering its a small house with alot of things close together.
