Unemployment pay. Social welfare

How long can dole be back paid?

I have been supporting my girlfriend for a number of months while she has been waiting for her social welfare payment. As you can imagine it has caused me to incur an undesired amount of debt, she has agreed to help me pay them with her payment.

It's usually back paid to the point of application.

Someone told me it was changed so you only a month or maybe 2 months before it is cut off for back pay. But they're not certain. I really hope you are right. Thanks for taking the time to answer

Rather than you supporting her, if she's in real financial difficulty then she should have contacted her local CWO to apply for Supplementary Welfare (SWA).

If her claim for JA/JB is approved then it will be backdated to the date her application was received.

Thanks for the reply, yeah I agree we did but were told we couldn't get supplementary welfare something along the lines of its not available, if you have ever been in such a situation in which you need help in this way you may know how hard they make it for everyone, I'm just glad we have finally got the application approved :)
