In an effort to minimise banking charges I would like to close my traditonal bank account and use Revolut or N26 but I am concerned Intreo may have some issue with using a GB or DE IBAN, which those bank accounts come with instead of an Irish one.

Is there any issue doing this?

Did you ever find out if this is possible?

So why not ask the people who pay you the money? They'd probably be the most reliable people to ask - certainly they're unlikely to give you a bum steer.

No not yet, I am still deciding on which bank to use. There is a third I am now considering Bitwala, which on the face of it seems to beat both on charges and allows either unlimited or a lot more free ATM withdrawals. If there is any issue with a non IE IBAN another option may be to set up an apparently free banking EBS account or use a credit union account and then set up a standing order.

    From other threads,

it seems to be fine to use N26 for:

    Revenue - Tax
    Revenue - LPT
    Welfare - Child Benefit
    Welfare - PUP

But reports, that it does not work for Job Seekers Benefit - as they do not have the facility of paying into a non Irish bank account.
and if you opt for JB Post Office Collection, the PO can't credit the funds to an N26 card, so can take the payment in cash, or, credit an Irish Bank Account card.

Thanks! Mine is the Back to Education Allowance, so I am not sure if that falls under benefit or not.

    Any update on this.

With Ulster Bank closing down in the next few months, I need to know if they would pay invalidity pension weekly to N26 or the likes?

Under EU law no business should discriminate against a non Irish IBAN and if they do they can be taken to court https://www.centralbank.ie/consumer-hub/explainers/what-is-iban-discrimination-and-what-can-i-do-about-it

As the DSP is neither an employer or a business then this doesn’t apply to them.

    What is IBAN discrimination?

IBAN discrimination is where an employer or company, such as a utility company, refuses to accept your SEPA IBAN for euro payments or direct debits.

IBAN discrimination is not permitted under the SEPA.

An Irish employer or utility company cannot insist you open or maintain an Irish bank account for euro transfers.

I don't know whether this helps or not but I use Revolut and my DA is paid into my account using a Lithuanian IBAN. Used to be a GB one prior to Brexit.

It is possible. I receive my IP payment into an N26 account and until the kid turned 18 it's also where I received Child benefit.

IP is a benefit. Jobseekers is completely different.

Jobseekers is all post office now. No option to have it lodged to the bank. Not sure if back to education falls into this category or not.

Just to be clear, DEASP and Revenue have been permitting use of N26 for quite some time. I'm not sure about revolut.

Normally Jobseekers payments are not lodged directly into a claimants bank account but the pandemic meant the department allowed people have jobseekers payment lodged directly into their bank accounts.

Payments that were permitted to be lodged to bank accounts included, illness benefit, Disibility payments, Pensions, Childrens allowance, etc etc.

The general rule of thumb was Jobseekers allowance / Benifit and SWA were paid directly into PO.

In Feb last approx, the minister announced a graduated return to PO collection for jobseekers payments, starting with new claims.
