    Hi All,

just bought an ex taxi 2011 Avensis for little money and I'm very happy with it but there I've 2 issues.

    1. The first problem is the central locking, the unlock button on the remote or on the drivers door does nothing, unlocking with the key only opens the drivers door. I found other posts about this and it seems to be the door lock actuator. My question is do I need to replace all 4 or just the drivers ones?

    2. After nearly 300,000km the manual gear stick feels sloppy and engaging 1st take a bit of shoving to get it engaged, once moving everything is fine and the clutch is OK too, would replacing the shifter mechanism resolve this or is it more serious?

    Thanks, Brian

    Hi brian
U only need to replace drivers actuator.
Check the cables and mechanism on gear box. The plastic/ rubber bushings can show signs of wear. Get someone to put it in gear slowly and watch for signs of play

thanks, I actually found the master switch for controlling the windows and central locking is faulty (wont work rear right hand window). Going to replace that as its the easiest first.

1st gear issue turned out to be the gear linkage, I used a shim to correct the opening size until a replacement comes which sorted it. The shifter mechanism has signs of wear so I'll get another from a breakers too.

I replaced the drivers side door actuator but no joy with the central locking. I think its the relay behind the glove box as I can hear it clicking when I press the unlock button.

Panda, your image doesn't work because it's a base64 image. You need jpg, png etc real images for it to work.

well my central locking is working but I've no idea how I fixed it. I did have a problem with the boot door closing and gave the lock some lube and a few good hard slams to get it shut. After that everything is OK again. weird.
