Buying in from UK, any real advantage v hassle?

    Hi all,

was thinking of spending around 15-16K on bringing in a car from UK before Brexit hits but after looking at prices here there's very little difference in prices certainly compared to the hassle of doing so.

I was looking at a 2016 Passat CC and Audi A4 which have a VRT and NoX of avg 3000 euro (is that average?) which from what I can gather is nearly adds up to what some dealers here are charging. Only thing is is the mileage seems to have a serious effect on the price; more than `I thought it would.

I would've thought, naively so maybe, that I could get a car from UK at about 2k cheaper than buying here. Maybe someone can give me some guidance.

    €17k vs €13k (and 20k miles less)

    €17k vs €14k (and 30k miles less)

I just had a look at the CC. €17k is about the average price here, I see a couple of them for €16k and a few for €18k+. I rounded up the UK prices to account for shipping as well and assumed €3k VRT. Easy savings to be made

Budget about 500 for travel over and back. Flight and ferry, taxi/train and a tank of fuel to get back depending on where in UK and Ireland you have to travel to and from.
Also factor in there may be plenty of movement in Irish asking price and little in UK price, which seems to be the usual way and the 3k difference could be down to 1.5k to 2k.

Still a saving though not to be sniffed at.

Do Irish garages tend to charge 3k more for the car but then give the 3k or most of the 3k back through an inflated trade in.

Last time I sold my car to an Irish indep for goodish money and went north cuz my import was 3k cheaper than an equivalent Irish car. I know the cost to change is the real deciding number. Garages seem lately really poor at getting back to one with prices. Is it cuz if they run a motorcheck and see one has been run in recent days thsy know you have been onto another garage and they just walk away.

    Hi all,

Hope your all well during these times. Just looking for a bit of advice. When restrictions are lifted we are hoping to get a new car. Was thinking a 2017 seat alhambra. Was going to bring one in from the North looking to pay vrt. Is there anywhere you can get the Nox values for the Seat Alhambras. I've been doing some looking getting nowhere

    Thanks for your help

This site can be good for in indication but really unless you call the dealer and ask for the figure on the V5 you could be miscalculating. As far as I know with it being a 2017 the maximum the NOX charge can be is €600.
