Covid Wedding Venue Issue

Hi all, looking for some advice in relation to our wedding venue.

We were due to get married during the lockdown, however, due to government restrictions our day had to be postponed.

We spoke to our venue when lockdown began and they gave us an alternative date in 2021. However, as the venue is very popular and with all the rescheduled weddings; only a Sunday was available.

We recently spoke to the venue and were only made aware that the price per person is being changed due to the restrictions on numbers. We had been very happy with our original package but the new 'covid package' is now 40 euro per person more expensive and is of less quality than the original package.

We had signed a contract for the original wedding date but we have no contract signed for the 2021 date. Anyone have any idea where we stand on deposit refund? Or anyone had similar experiences-what steps did you take?

well that sounds rather frustrating and unfair. I don't know what rules are when changes have to be made that are outside the control of the venue, but charging more for less because the situation has arisen seems opportunistic. I would think you'd have right to cancel for a full refund of any deposit if they're changing their terms. Contact citizens Information and they may be able to advise or at least point you in the right direction.

Is the price per person on the original date fixed.

Ie could you have 40 people there or 100 people there with the same cost per person.

Many things are quoted as a theoretical cost per person but are really a fixed cost (divided amoung the number of people for comparison) and a variable cost. It's often done by having a minimum number of people.

Was there a fixed element or a minimum number of people in the original date?
