This is just a post to let sheep farmers know what I found out about sheep blindness. It came into my farm 3 years ago in October and did not leave until march .it nearly broke me had 120 ewes that time .vet told me alamicin la 300 to every sheep and tubes to the eye. In march 2018 I found out that noromectin worm dose into the eye works.2mm into each eye .ivomec is in the dose so I believe that is the trick.it happened to me again last weekend I had 29 sheep bad sight watery eyes and a scum around eye .noromectin 1lt is only about 15 euros it is cheaper that tubes and alamicin. I live beside river so cant leave them in fields near that.all my sheep are clear again it is important to do all sheep even the ones that done have it.i have learned this the hard way over the last few years.i just want to share this with ye .

Would most of the ewes not clear up themselves with time without treating them ?

I had 3 with it about 6 weeks ago. Go them cleared up. But this evening I was sorting for the rams and say I had 25 to 30 starting it.

Put tubes in all but dont know will it work as good as above. Where did u learn this trick? Actually am worried enough about them. Was meant to let the rams off today but held back because of it.

I’m in the same boat . I let the rams off on Saturday with them . There tipping away fine . It’s a dirty yoke to be looking at due ! Especially when one has it in both eyes

I thought I had it cleared. My worry is the rams will go down with it. Must get another shot of eye ointment of the vet tomorrow and do them again.

I’m just letting it run it’s coarse at this stage . Treating is just slowly down the immunity to it

Had a ram with it about 3 weeks ago.Only noticed him too late but it cleared up the finest.
One ewe here gone blind from it.Two totally clouded eyes.Done her with tubes and LA antibiotic Saturday so will see what happens.Vet was telling me its very common at the moment.

Had a bad dose of it a few years ago.Maybe 40/50 ewes in total. All recovered bar one or two.Ran through them in a few days.Biggest problem is thinking you have a couple with sore eyes, get them in and see numerous sheep with it.

Did you bother treating them when you had the bigger outbreak paddy or did you let it run it’s coarse?

Never had it here, but buy in very few sheep and I'm sure that's the reason

I had it 3 years ago put I used turbomec last 2 years in September instead of dipping it kills lice and mange and that sort of stuff.i didn't use it this year there has to be something out there to make live easier. I'm injecting all sheep with ivomec to day .that's all they used 40 years ago worth a try . My rams never get it and some sheep got it 4 times and some never got it at all.i think some sheep have immunity.

If you do abit of research on google you’ll see that in New Zealand they don’t treat it and let it run it’s coarse. They did research on it and found that treating it was just slowing up immunity.

I live beside river and drains you would only lose them. it would take weeks to get over cause every sheep wont get it at the start .have you let it run it course ?

4 of my places are open to the sea and most of the rest have some type of drowning hazard, like you say we'd only end up losing them. Think this is the 4th or 5th time we've had the pleasure of it.
