    Hi

    We've a new build house 250m from a rural co.galway fibre cabinet.

I'm wondering which way to go about getting internet setup. I've rang a few places about it and they are recommending wireless broadband from the cabinet. Will the speeds on this be decent and reliable if the signal from the tower is good?

3g and 4g at the house is terrible so i'm thinking would it be better to go with a traditional phone line setup in the meantime while we wait for the ftth? Could be a year or two before that happens.

250m is perfectly acceptable for Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC). You should get close to the maximum speed of 100Mbps over the phone line between your house and the cabinet. Just bear in mind that your phone line may not follow the shortest route - or worst case, you might not be connected to the the nearest cabinet. You should be able to check your speed on the Eir website, or one of their re-sellers. Don't go wireless if you can get FTTC at 250m.
