Soviet homemade Supercars

    There's a video here of an initiative by Gorbachev to inspire Russians to design their own sports and supercars. These are all home made, built in garages from scavenging parts from a very limited supply.

    Hats off to the Countach estate with influences from a Nova kit car. And to the bastard offspring of a Matra Murena/Renault Fuego/Lada Samara.

    There's a rabbit hole there that I'll head down over the weekend. Video is below and there's and article on it here.

    The East German equivalent was the Melkus RS 1000. Nice car, but had a smokey 2-stroke, I saw one at a show in Germany in the 90's. More on it here and in the video below. I have a fairly long article about it in an old car mag, so I might try to dig it out over the weekend.
