Off farm winter work Tax.

Hi , heard this many years ago , when the cows are dry , fellas would work off farm and you could earn It tax free . Can’t remember what it was the tax exemption was called. I could be totally wrong. Has anyone every heard of such a thing. Otherwise it’s not really worth the hassle as it would be top rate tax band. TIA
