Completely different scenario working in an Amazon warehouse in the US versus Ireland.

Employee rights in ireland are immeasurably more worker-friendly than they are in the US.

That Guardian piece is a load of crap, a news dump, no comparisons made with other warehouse workers, or the workforce in general, and I'm no supporter of Amazon.
If the lad starts work with Amazon, he will get a reference after a few months, and can move on if he wants, its easier to get a job if you have a job

If a place is a crap place to work and the company is exploiting their workers, it is irrelevant how it compares to other people companies that also **** all over their workforce.

So you either mistakenly believe that the US enforce EU labour law in the US or that Amazon does not have to comply with EU laws in Europe, which is it?

A lot of people, especially young people like the OP is referring to, are quite happy working there. It can be an easy (albeit physical draining), well paid job.

Irrespective of this, we have much better workplace laws than the US, so they're will be no abuse of worker rights, no matter what you try to make people believe.

I know a lad working security in a new Amazon datacentre in Dublin, and I know someone working at high level in management, both enjoying their jobs, happy with their pay levels and happy with opportunities to advance, as the Amazon workforce here is growing rapidly.

I've heard about the hard life Amazon warehouse workers in the US have, but anyone I know working for them in Ireland is happy.. but that being said.. neither of the two I know are working in a goods warehouse.

Hope they are treated well and take safety measures against Covid 19 seriously, this young lads grandmother lives with his family and is not in the best of health.
