Small "phoenix" box in landing

Hi, I recently bought a house that was built in the mid 80's. I'm doing some DIY and I'm curious as to what this box is. It's about 8cm across and 6cm high. And has 2 small circular holes in the front. Located directly above the hot press door. Any ideas what it might be? Thanks
