    Hi there,,
Looking at a BMW Gran Coupe or Jag XF Diesels, probably 2017. Any thoughts on which is the best drive and the most sensible option, pros and cons? Or any reccommendations for something similar?
Also any thoughts on importing from UK? I have imported before, just wondering is it best to go for diesel or petrol?
    Thanks

Are you looking at 4 series or 6 series gran coupe? You'd want to consider audi a5 and a7 and the Mercedes cls too... Its all personal preference really there's very little between these brands that's not subjective. I'd be happy with any of them, drove plenty of the 3 German brands over the years. Was a bmw only fan boy for years but spotted a lovely audi a few years ago and bought it. Happy with it. Next car is either bmw or audi too. Never driven a jag or know anyone with one. Not too many owners around here either as far as I can tell. I'd probably exclude jag if I was looking myself but not to say its what you should do.

The 4 Series Gran Coupe is a good bit smaller than the XF. The XF is more in line with a 5 Series.

I had a number of 5 Series and moved to a 4 Series just over a month ago as I wanted something a bit more fun to drive and didn't need the extra space. The boot in the 4 Series is more practical due to being a liftback but the rear of the 4 Series GC is much tighter and roofline is way lower due to being a coupe. The 4 Series is more engaging to drive due to less bulk and weight but the 5 Series is more comfortable and refined with better cabin insulation. I'd expect the XF to be very similar to the 5 Series regarding comfort and cabin refinement but the 2.0d in the XF is not a very refined engine.

If you want the comfort and refinement of a 5 Series/XF but like the sportier coupe look of a Gran Coupe then take a look at the 6 Series Gran Coupe as kind of best of both.

XF is a bit long in the tooth at this stage design wise, and the major revision they did manage, is the use of their own ingenium engines which are fierce troublesome compared to earlier iterations that we’re bulletproof.

What about a Giulia? Better looking and better to drive than either of them and much rarer sight. Reliability should be much the same too. I'd get sick of seeing so many of the same car if I bought a bmw. They are everywhere now. The XF never did much for me.

Thats interesting, never thought of a Guila. Are they really a better drive?

Wouldn't the Jag XE be the closer relative to the 4 series? The XF would relate closer to the 5 series.

At that, I'd take the '17 4 series all day long over the XE. The interior quality of Jags has always let me down.

There's also a couple of Giulia's around the same price point on Autotrader atm. Totally agree with manus30 above. They're absolutely gorgeous, and a hell of a lot rarer than any beamer/jag. I love seeing Giulia's around the place :)

If you live around town, I'd be weary of the 6 series. They're HUGE.
