Does anyone have a Huawei 4g router on mobile broadband? Are they any good compared to fixed line Broadband. I was checking out reviews of them on Google and most seem good...comparing very well with the speeds on fixed line broadband. I have fixed line broadband at the moment and thinking of switching to save a few quid. The mobile signal for Eir and Three is reasonable in my area.

Comparing Huawei 4G router(hardware) to fixed line broadband(service) is pointless.

I have B525 and its good router, but speed you will be getting depend on ISP, signal and congestion in your area. Results could be between satisfactory and disappointment.
Test first, before canceling fixed line

I have Huawei b818 router with Eir 4g mobile broadband.
    Speed is around 20 mbps.

I have it only because I live in a new built house and broadband line is not available at present.

    Hi,

Depends on which fixed line broadband is available to you. I had Eir fixed line broadband 800kb down and 128Kb up. I switched to a 4G Huawei router also with Eir as soon as the 4G signal was strong enough and I now have Ping ms28 Download Mbps 11.36 Upload Mbps 3.08 on a stormy wet day. Not great but far far better than what I had. Best I have had on the 4G is 20Mbps down and 15 up.
I will be changing to better fixed line as soon as it becomes available in my area but for now I am very happy I switched to 4G.

As all above have said about speed. Also mobile speed is usually "slower" than its fixed-line equivalent. In other words even if you have the same speed they aren't like for like. Worth checking your bandwidth allowance and fair usage policy too. If you have Netflix and a couple of YouTube fans in the house they can chew through your allowance. I use a high end 4G router when away with no WiFi and the Vodafone X sim. It is limited to 10mb but there is no usage limit.

Hi Fluppen. What has your general experience with Eir been? Any problems etc? Customer support is heavily criticised elsewhere....

I'm losing it with our Sky fixed line service and thinking of going to Eir mobile broadband- all comments welcome.

    Thanks.

Honestly, not great. This goes back to 2016 and credits and apologies have been given. I was initially miss sold several non existent price plans by a door to door Eir 'Business development manager' and told that the mobiles land line here and land line at an unmanned facility would all be in the one bundle. To this day I still have three separate accounts with a 4th added on now because the mobile broadband couldn't be added to any of the existing plans. Customer service has generally been poor, particularly in the beginning. If I talk to someone about one account they can't help me with the others because they are on a different system etc etc. Only reason I stayed with Eir is because I have a long line coming from the road which has regular faults and they were most willing to try fixed line broadband. I'm happyish enough with them at the moment but to be honest I really should change to a provider that can do everything more easily and smoothly.
To be honest though, I have had experience with Vodafone and O2/3 as well over the years and that was very up and down too.

    Thanks, very helpful comments.

I may have found a wireless provider that could suit my location, so hopefully will get sorted.
