Window regulator for a MK5 Golf?

Hey folks, the drivers side window no longer works in my 2008 MK5 Golf 1.4TSI.
It failed while the window was still fully closed and while it does drop a little when driving but thankfully never enough to let any rain.
When I press the control for the window I can hear the motor spinning freely and it sounds to me like the cable on the regulator has snapped.

Because of what I can hear I think it's just the regulator that needs to be replaced and from the guides I've seen it seems like something I can handle but when I went looking to buy a replacement it seems like there's a lot more choice of brands than I expected.
For example on onlinecarparts.co.uk there are:
"52 RESULTS FOUND FOR WINDOW REGULATOR VOLKSWAGEN GOLF V HATCHBACK (1K1) 1.4 TSI (FROM 05.2007, 122 HP)" and a range of prices.
So first question, if I can hear the motor spinning is it likely just the cable that is snapped like I'm guessing?
Can anyone recommend a particular brand?
I think one of the features of the regulator I need is that it is compatible with the "comfort" option.

    Thanks!

Traynors up the north is your best bet
They deliver to the south 3 days a week

It's the regulator surely, they all go sooner or later!
Check your local motor factors, most likely in stock as they sell regularly. If not they'll have it overnight for you.
Just let them know if its a 3dr or a 5dr, that's the only difference.

Thanks for the replies, any particular brand you’re familiar with or could recommend? Or any to stay away from either?

I fitted one of these recently. was excellent quality and delivery was a bout a week from Poland, I got quote from main dealer cant remember what it was but it was comical.
If its just a snapped cable you just need the regulator (can you hear the motor spin still ?? ). You just need the regulator bit as listed and you swap in the original motor off your old one.

    https://www.ebay.ie/itm/WINDOW-REGULATOR-ELECTRIC-FRONT-RIGHT-FOR-VW-GOLF-V-MK5-03-09-5-DOORS/183263529013?hash=item2aab5b8835:g:m8wAAOSwi3tbGUaS

I found it tricky to get the lock out but the rest is vey self explanatory. its a very DIY able job, loads of guides on you tube. you tke out lock, then off door panel outer skin, crash bar, window out, replace regulator, refit all, good luck !!

Also make sure you get correct part L/R 3/5 Dr etc

Hey Notch, thanks for the link.
I haven't a notion going to the main dealer for this because the car has had a few other issues so not sure how long I can keep it going without major work.
If I can get this sorted I'll put it through the NCT

I see on that ad that it recommends that the OE "Number must be the same as on the original part." any idea where I might find it without taking apart the door to get it?
Also, this might be a stupid question but does the one you fit work with the "comfort" action? maybe this isn't the right way to describe it so it's where you press and hold the button and it finishes the movement by itself instead of you needing to hold the button.

Looking at the videos the lock and handle seem a bit tricky all right so I'll watch out for that. Thanks.

i dont see how it wont work with 'comfort'. The regulator itself is only a shielded cable in a loop, i imagine the motor would control the modulation of the windows

Now that you say it that makes sense. Thanks again.
