Question about ordering new car

So toying with the idea of buying brand new but the sticky point is if you buy at the end of 2020 obv it has a short birthday. Now I don't have a car or insurance at the minute and not super keen on waiting until January delivery tbh. I'd be itching to get going. Are there any other options beyond having to buy second hand because of this? Like would it ever be normal to put a new car on order, start your payments and ask for a courtesy car until the new one arrives, prob a long shot, but ya never know.

You could order your car now for delivery in the new year.

If you need a car between now and then you could rent one for about €150 a week. With the current covid situation car rental firms should have good offers to get it even lower price.

Quick Google of rental firms locally is showing up as c €1k min for a month. That's mad money, would be over twice the car payment, wouldn't be for me.

Perhaps buy a banger for a €999 and drive it until you get your new car? And then sell it.

Spending 1k to save 4k on depreciation seem like a good deal to me.

What new car are you looking to buy brand new? Due to Covid even if you ordered today there might not be any guarantee it be available in January especially if it's a factory order. You might be better off buying a cheap banger and then sell it on when your new car arrives. The alternative is unless you absolutely cannot do without a car between now and the end of December, just wait rather than wasting money just to have it quickly.

Haven't decided for sure yet but leaning toward a Renault Captur. Will prob buy 2nd hand/bargain for one off the lot instead tbh. Cheap banger prob a no go. Situation is I've driving test in 2 weeks time, so getting ahead of me self but would want to buy straight away if I pass. The insurance cost of anything older is silly money and the closer in year you get to new here the more you start thinking "sure fcuk it for a few extra grand I'd get a new one instead of 2nd hand". Doesn't look like it'll work out though.

Ring a few dealers and see if they have any demo Capturs

Up to 40% of Renault new registrations are a mix of pre reg, demo and ex hire.

Should be loads available and better value than new.

You will get plenty of Renault Captur's at the beginning of the year cheap after the PCP deals go back to the dealers for new ones or just handed back because so many are working from home now and don't need 2 cars per house.

Don't expect anything from life, just be grateful to be alive.
