Covid payment application turned down

Had an email last night saying that I’m not eligible for PUP due to not earning enough to pay PRSI in 2018/19. This feels particularly harsh because during that time I was very sick with an undiagnosed progressive lung disease that kept collapsing my lung. This year I have earned over the threshold to pay PRSI, but obviously that doesn’t get assessed until next summer and I’ve no way to prove it until then.

I’ve got a 3 month old baby and a partner to look after and just don’t know how we can survive 7 whole weeks with no income and I didn’t manage to sleep at all last night. I understand that the lockdown is necessary, but what are people in my situation supposed to do to stay alive?

Try and apply for the normal dole i.e. job seekers benefit or allowance which is means tested

I’m not entitled to it unfortunately. I’m from the U.K. and always been self employed, so have never payed the right stamps to get it and I’ve ever wanted to rely on welfare. I’ve no choice but to ignore the lockdown and return to my job. Lots of my customers say they will gladly continue.

Why not contact your local CWO? You've nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Thanks for that, I will look into it today. I’ve absolutely no idea about the welfare system. I’d ideally be back at work. My work is horticulture, but Garda tell me certain things such as grass cutting “might not be permitted”, and they’re waiting on advice from government in the coming days on what I can and can’t do. That was 2 weeks ago and still no idea!
