Looking at upgrading car, not looking for a brand new one but something around a 2014 or 2015 passant, golf or skoda suberb. I'm a part time worker and also farm but struggle to get finance anywhere, anyone any tips or suggestions?

First thing I will say don't over extend yourself, a car is a depreciating asset and you will only lose money going in to it whether you can afford it or not. The odd thing is you could probably get a new or nearly new car on PCP without much issue.

If money is tight and you got behind on your repayments you could destroy your credit rating for years.

Would you look at maybe 5-6k and get a car within that range? If the maths don’t add up then you’ll struggle to get approved I.e. affordability. Also don’t go down the route with the more sub prime lenders. The interest and charges are massive.

Today they are built to get them to the end of the warranty

Have you money to fix it?

Talk to your local credit union.
