Failed NCT - rear axle bushes

    Hi lads,

Just failed my NCT today on the following:

    1. Both front brake discs saying insufficient contact between brake pad and disc.
    2. Both rear axle bushes are worn and need changing.
    3. It also says "Repeat side slip test" whatever that means, he said it was the alignment, I'm assuming the tracking? He didn't say a whole lot.

Could anyone give me an estimate as to how much this will cost? Mainly the bushes as I've never heard of them. Someone told me 500 and another person said its a small job.

I've no idea about cars and have been basically robbed recently by a mechanic. Could do with some help if possible.

    Thanks!

Make, model and age would help.

Depending on the car it could be a small part, bushes are like bearings, or some manufacturer's make you change the whole piece they are mounted to.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry, its a 2010 Ford Focus 1.6TDCI 5 door.

Hoping it's not going to break me. Getting an idea of what it might cost will help.

Front brake pads and discs around €200 at most
Rear bushings and tracking around €150

I say around 300 to 350 marks depending on parts and were you go

Ahh the auld bushes. They love failing people on that. I think they go on the age of the car if they decide to fail or not. Happened to me once and the bushes were fine but I had new ones bought at this point. The old ones make good fire lighters so they do.

Have no idea what they are tbh. Always deeply paranoid when it comes to cars and going to mechanics as I haven't a clue really and I don't have a mechanic that I trust as such.

Hope it won't be too pricey.

They are a few simple blocks of rubber or rubber with a piece of metal attached and they hold the yoke that holds the wheel onto the car. The bushings themselves only cost 10 or 20 quid each and they are not terribly hard to fit usually. They seem to go after about 10 years of pummeling down the sh1t Irish roads

Bolts never rust solid in bushes sure.
