Selling Advice: VW Golf

    Hi folks,

I'll be parting ways with my 12 year old MK5 golf before the end of the year.

Car has just only 104k miles on the clock and should do the same again if it's maintained properly.

I've just cracked a rear coil spring, the NCT is due shortly and the lock mechanism in the front left has gone.

Grateful for advice on whether posters would sell the car after repairing those items and putting it through the NCT, or whether it might be better to sell it as is and reflect those items in the price.

Big variations in price out there from below €2k to around €4k - I was surprised at the higher amounts being sought for this model!

I wouldn't pay much attention to dreamer asking prices to be honest, they are not an accurate reflection of what the cars are actually selling for.

A car will always be easier to sell with a fresh NCT and worth a few quid more than one about to expire and in need of work. The problem with selling it as is, is that no matter how much lower you ask for it to take into account the work and NCT need doing people will still expect to want money off it "to take it off your hands". Also NCT slots are hard to get now so people might not want the hassle of trying to battle that just after buying a car unless the car is going dirt cheap. If you don't want all that hassle either and don't want to put anymore money into then you have to price it accordingly.
