Internal meter upgrade

My understanding is that all meter upgrades in an external meter cabinet will have an isolating switch installed. This switch being installed after the meter and before the mcb located there and consumer unit.

Is this also the case for wall mounted meters inside the house with space at the meter maybe being an issue? Is there a smaller model of the kamstrup meter being used inside the house and does it have an isolating switch built in and unsealed terminals for tails to the consumer unit?

Thanks for any info on this

It's like 'back to the future'

The isolator was in use previously in the domestic cabinets. The consumer tails connected to it before the MCB came into use.

Is there a need for an isolator in addition to the MCB that's used now. Maybe something to do with EVs being supplied from the cabinet, would you even fit it all in.

Unsealed meters with a switch was also used previously. Tails were connected directly to the meter , no isolator or MCB . Can't see that coming back even for internal meters.

The internal meter was upgraded to a smart meter in the house of a relative a few weeks ago. No isolator switch was provided as part of the upgrade.

ESBN going back obviously wanted to get away from connecting tails and energising installations.

I think that's why the unsealed meters/ isolators were introduced

The Main MCB came in then to protect the tails if needed
