I have one of these hideous things in the living room. A dimplex OFX1500TI

    https://www.sparksdirect.co.uk/15kw-oil-filled-panel-radiator-in-willow-white-with-programmable-timer-and-thermostat-dimplex-ofx1500ti-

I have it set to come on for an hour and a half in the mornings and a few other times throughout the day.

I know oil radiators make some light ticking noises as they heat up / cool down. But this one makes loud bangs and clangs. It wakes me up sometimes.

I have a video of the noise here: https://youtu.be/9_iRfs8aMYM

Doesn't really do it justice. It's louder in real life. And a real pain in the arse. My missus is trying to do zoom calls with these explosions in the background.

Are they supposed to be that loud? You can hear a bit of bass to it. As if the wall is being blasted by the noise too.

Could it be how it was mounted on the wall? Could the brackets be causing this noise? Should I loosen the mountings or tighten it?

Photos of the wall mountings: https://linksharing.samsungcloud.com/kohgSNnAUYqu

(bonus points: it really is a hideous contraption. Hate the look of it - the photo above of a brand new model looks like it has been in use for the last 40 years in an ancient London council flat. any safe way to cover it? any ideas?)

I would be inclined to have an electrician look at it, or maybe even replace it.

Seems like expansion/contraction noises but is quite loud alright, I would just replace it because by they're cheap compared to an electrician call out

You can get more stylish electric wall heaters in ceramic now if they're your only option for heating

Well I'm renting so can't actually replace it myself.

No gas line in the house, electric only.

Are ceramic wall heaters better than oil filled ones? Do they retain heat like oil filled?
