UK to Dublin via Amsterdam. Would I need a Visa?

    I was told to check if I need a Visa. 3 hours layover at airport. Changing airlines. Flying home. Presume I don’t need a Visa. Do I?

    you can't find a direct flight from London to Dublin??

    I flew Stanstead to Dublin 2 weeks ago. I'm sure Heathrow and Gatwick have daily departures to Dublin?

    According to the thread title, the OP is starting from somewhere in the UK.

    The proposed route is UK-Amsterdam-Dublin.

    Amsterdam is a common enough hub for regional airports in the UK. Friend of mine flew Leeds, AMS, Inverness as only useful option last year
    The london airports are focused on international rather than regional and amterdam has sorta filled the gap

    Amsterdam is in the EU. You don’t need a visa as an EU national any more than you would for a trip through Galway, just your Irish passport or passport card.

    Globally, the list of countries Irish passport holders need visas for for short travel / tourism etc is a fairly short one.

    Just out of curiosity: who told you to check if you need a visa?!

    I've done Dublin-Amsterdam-Edinburgh routing a couple of times at peak travel times (eg 6 Nations weekend booked late) and it's been fine. Definitely no via required in either direction.

    It's possible that the person who advised the OP to check re. a visa was unsure of the OP's nationality.
    Maybe thinking they were on a visa in the UK.
    They may have been trying to be diplomatic.

    I've seen Dublin used similarly btw for intra UK flights. Most regional and even quite small UK cities are (normally) connected to Dublin, so you can say go from Leeds/Bradford to Dublin to say Southhampton and stick with cheap airlines.
