    Most occupational pensions are written under trust. The employer pays to have a pension set up for the benefit of the employees. The trustees are the owners of the pension, to legally separate it from the assets of the employer. The trustees run the pension for the benefit of the beneficiaries, who are the pension scheme members/employees.
