Hyandai i40

So long story short, I bought a Hyandai I40, low on power from the start and drinking diesel. Back to the garage 5 to 6 times, they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Eventually made them take it to main dealer for diagnostics. He rang me to say head gasket was gone, but they would be covering it under warranty.

6 weeks to replace the engine, went to collect the car and the back bumper was driven in and cracked, so they had to take the car back again and fix that.

Had the car back for 4 weeks and it went into limp mode while on the way home from work, and I managed to pull her off to the side of the road.

There now saying they can find no faults logged in the memory. I'm not taking the car back as I don't trust them or the car anymore.

    What do you think?

I'm trying, I've since found out the head manifold and radiator were melted on the engine before it was sold to me. And that was from a main dealer who had services the car for its previous owner.

You would imagine the garage that sold it to me would have spotted that.

    They sound like clowns.
Go in there in person and make a fuss.

They are all popular things to "melt" on the i40, while a bit of a disaster, i wouldn't take it personally.

Plastic intake manifolds melt, plastic rocker covers melt, the lower section of the rads warp too, all fairly popular.

Unfortunately there are around 78 different items that can have them down on power without leaving fault codes too. That being said, what is the benchmark for down on power here? Is it in limp mode?

Is it still under manufacturers warranty? If not i'd be trying to get out of it. Might be easier said than done though.

    Have the same problem.

Looking up Hyundai forums if you Google i40 limp mode, a lot of posts refer to fuel pressure sensor/fuel filter/housing problems. It's also a very big problem for i30 owners.

Quite a few people have went down this route to find a fix, and succeeded.

Haven't done mine yet, as I think it's not a cheap fix.

For the record, this problem does not show up or store fault codes.

May be worth your while to look into it.

I'm done with the car, I've had it in the garage for longer than I've had use of it. At least 15 times at this stage. If I have to take the legal route to get my money back I will, I dont trust the car or the garage now.

Also, are the garage required to provide verification of the mileage of the replacement engine?
