NCT retest time limit

My car failed it's NCT due to some rust on a brace. I contacted my local Honda service centre and they have said they can't get the part until the second week in December and with COVID, it might possibly be longer. The NCT says it needs to be reested by the 11th of Nov, otherwise a full retest and a full fee would be required.

This situation doesn't seem reasonable to me, on the NCT's part, given the circumstances. Are they amenable to appeal or reason?

You can get spurious or 2nd hand instead of buying OEM.

I have already looked on ebay and no luck. It's a very uncommon car here so trying to find a breaker in the Uk that has one in good nick seems like a hard slog.

Can you not treat the rust and paint afterwards.
Is it rusted through or surface rust?

It's rusted a fair way through and I doubt a cosmetic fix would pass muster as they will be looking for new part.

Normally, you can clean off the rust. Weld in a small piece if required and spray black over.

    What part is rusted?

Thanks, I had a look and they list it as available on back order, so I might be looking at the same supply chain problem, but I'll give them a shout even though the price is a good 20% higher than the dealer quote, and that's even before adding shipping.

To be honest, I think it looks like they are just sourcing an original part and adding their markup.

It's a bracing rod that connects between the tops of the two main chasis rails.

Since the rust is in the end sections of the main tube, you might as well be talking fabricating a whole new part, which I am sure I could do if I had a welder and could source some suitably thick walled tubing, but then there are the two annoying brackets on the tube and painting, I'd rather just buy one.
