Would have thought on paper that Anthony Van Dyck would have been favourite for this one. It's won a Derby, it'll clearly stay the trip here. It favours good ground, which it should also get. The negatives, it has a nightmare draw, also I am not hugely convinced it'll like the tight track. I would probably have backed it but for the draw.

I've decided to go for True Self. Not as good as Anthony Van Dyck, but also carries a stone less. Has a much nicer draw, has won in Australia before over a similar type of track. Willie knows how to train these type of horses for staying flat races, and this one isn't going over for the Aussie air. Worth punting on at 30/1.

    Nice one.

I told everyone to back Dream of Dreams last time as I thought he'd be a shorter price. I'm again in this boat and think he's value at 5/2.

Double with Palace Pier is about 5/1. Can't see anything beating this fella. Ticks every box here and again I thought he'd be 1/2 shot.

It's hard, and will get a lot harder if I have to do my Shergar Cup Day thread.

1.20 Happy to take on Stradavarius with the up and coming Spanish Mission. The change of stables for Spanish Mission has brought him on and the O'Brien challenge is too complex to make sense of. Broome is interesting with Colin Keane on board who seems to be on trial to replace Ryan Moore for next season. Aidan said Broome is ready to start back which doesn't sound like he's ready to win such a strong race.

1.55 Dream of Dreams is a very decent price for such an high class horse. Cases can be made for plenty of others including Lope Y Fernandez and Glen Shiel but hopefully Stoute can still have Dream of Dreams in proper order.

2.30 Wonderful Tonight is a filly in form with the ground she loves. The rest don't jump out as obvious winners.

3.05 Palace Pier to win easily but he's too short on this mad ground.

3.40 Magical isn't unbeatable but she is in the kind of form where she can grind out a win. Some of the field have the potential to beat her but it's hard to really fancy any of them. I'd expect a big improvement from Serpentine on his comeback run. He showed enough speed there to indicate that he could take a big 10f race, the ground is a big inconvenience to him as the bog-trotters will be running far above themselves on their favoured ground. Will still throw a few Euro on him coz I'd be sick if he won and I didn't back him.

Good luck to all... it's an awful pity that the soft ground makes a mess out of the form at what should be a much better day's racing than it usually ends up being.

Anthony Van Dyck ran a cracker considering it started out in the car park.

Clutching at straws here but Brando has been 4th last 2 yrs and not beaten too far last year. Has been woeful this season though, but still think might be a big run in him. He's the outsider of the field and probably will be last. I can't let him go off though at 175-1 (3 places) just in case. Also taken some 75/1 (5 places). Disclaimer: I do like the horse and it's a bet with the heart rather than the head (obviously says you!)
