We have always used the least amount possible if medicines. Not for any particular reason.

Our health plan would be basic enough, as follows (18 cow suckler to weanling and suckler to store herd).

    1) blackleg for the weanling after turn out and again 6 weeks later
    2) ivormextin pour on for the weanlings and other cattle on an “as needed basis” if they are coughing or not thriving.

Cattle in general performing ok. Just wondering if any one suggest something extra to add that would be of benefit? Or perhaps a different protocol for the Ivormextin?

Perhaps if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it but I am looking ahead to when my father is not around checking animals all day so would prefer prevention rather than cure.

Have you ever had trouble with pneumonia? We use the bovipast vaccine and find it great.

We dose younger animals with albex or levafas and use pour on on the cows as they cripple you if you try and dose them.

Copper is a good vitamin for fertility in cows. It can be injected or given in licks. Yearlings get an off coloured coat if they have copper deficiency

Lepto is a good vaccine for cows especially if you have a lot of rats around as they spread the virus

Also, we give the weanlings feed licks in the field, they are cheap enough and cattle like them

Not had any issue with pneumonia in recent years. Lost a bullock 4 or 5 years ago. Took him to mart. Wasnt happy with price. Bright him home. Squeeze him. He got sick and never came right and died 4 months later after a couple of vet visits. Expensive lesson.

If we decided to vaccinate against pneumonia is it a single shot for immunity or does it need to be repeated every year on all animals. Would you do calves and cows and weanlings or what is typical protocol?

Prefer pour on for all cattle. Convenience is worth it especially when the cattle are quiet and you can do a few in the field if they need it.

    Ant recommendations for licks?
Never had an issue with lepto that we know of. Is that a yearly vaccine?

More or less all vaccines are yearly.
Do cows with rotavec corona pre calving,
Cows heifers and bulls done for lepto and salmonella,
Calves done with the intranasal spray for rsv/pi3 as young calves and done for blackleg etc with tribovex 10 or similar.
Alternate dosing between drenches and ivermectin in young stock.
It is prob more farm dependent but I'd consider rotavec, lepto and salmonella must do vaccines

It’s probably very telling that I read this as Vacation plan, I was disappointed.
