An unofficial strike by Bus Éireann drivers is severely affecting bus services in Limerick today.

The 'wildcat' strike has resulted in short notice delays and major service cancellations to services in the city.

Bus Éireann says the issue only arose yesterday.

It says there is the potential for "sudden delays and cancellations" throughout the day.

The bus company is apologising to customers and says it has been encouraging the use of dispute resolution to try and settle the issue.

A spokesperson for Bus Éireann said: "Unofficial action by a number of Bus Éireann drivers in Limerick city is causing major disruption to Limerick-based services today Tuesday, 13 October 2020.

"Bus Éireann very much regrets and is deeply concerned by the impact of this action on customers including short notice delays and major service cancellations.

"Bus Éireann has, since the issue arose yesterday, been urging the use of recognised and agreed dispute resolution mechanisms and continues to make these available."

Does anyone know what this was about? Some people are saying it's about the forthcoming changes to Expressway but the Irish Examiner is claiming that it is in relation to a vacancy that was advertised.

No reason the Examiner would be incorrect. Sounds like nepotism is alive and well in CIE!

They would do offical channels if it was related to Expressway changes.
