Can I easily attach an external monitor to this laptop?

I want to have the portability of a very powerful laptop on the go, but I also want to attach it to a large monitor when I'm at home (so basically the same as having a powerful PC when it's in the house)

Is this easy to do with the ports and connections this laptop has?

• And then when the monitor is connected, do you then have two screens to use (laptop screen and monitor) or does it all switch to the monitor by default?
  
  
• Finally -- is it all easy as just connecting to monitor to the laptop and that's all I have to tech wise?

Assuming it has hdmi out, I think you can quite easily. i have a set up of hdmi out, serial out and also the laptop screen. So 3 screens

any standard laptop will have a video out port (usually hdmi)

you have a choice how to output the signal (to the monitor in this case) - as a duplicate of the screen or a workspace extension (e.g. a second destkop / screen) so you can effectively have more screen space (using both the laptop screen and the monitor to display different things)
