So if you give your notice and they allow you to just walk out (but keep you on the books the extra week, month or whatever notice period), can you start the new job immediately if you wish?

Are there any consequences to doing this other than tax

Are you on salary or hourly pay?

They will class your last day as your last physical day in the building and your new job will class your 1st day as your 1st day.

    So no issues really.
