Hi...I would like to be able to watch tv in my kitchen on a non smart tv that will have no sky box or cable or anything. I've been told that I should get a firestick, and that today is the best day to get one (prime day).

Thing is, I don't understand how it works, if you get the full range of apps etc in Ireland (often much is UK only), and if its what I want. I'd like to be able to use Netlfix, Prime and Channel 4 online especially, as well as youtube etc.

Would anyone mind explaining the firestick and how it works to me as if I was a particularly dim small child?

    Thank you

Firestick, Roku and devices like that will work no probs. I'm not sure whether you can access the Channel 4 on demand outside the UK without using a VPN but you will get the rest no probs.

You can get All4 (Channel 4) on a Firestick no problem. We use it - no need for VPN.

Fairly user friendly. If you have bought it through Amazon it will be linked to your account so straightforward in setting up. Home screen will have all your apps etc. Cant go wrong with it. Well worth it in making a tv "smart"

I have the Channel 4 app on an Apple TV & everything ‘on demand’ works perfectly without a VPN except for the live stuff. I can’t watch any of the programs as they’re being broadcast but there is a huge amount of content available & they’re normally pretty quick about updating the movies/tv shows after they’re shown. It’s probably similar on the FireStick.

My channel 4 and prime video apps only work with the VPN off, only iPlayer needs it of the ones I use.

My understanding is if you set up a VPN on your phone to put your IP address in the UK, then hotspot your phones Internet Connection so the Roku can pick it up.

Then connect to the 'hotspot' VPN network. And during the initial setup put the settings on the Roku for the UK.

Will the Roku continue to work away with UK settings without connecting to the VPN?
