Hi, Any opinions on 2012 2.0 Diesel h/back. Looking at pricing look to be around €4K with 100K miles. Any thing to watch out for or stay clear altogether. I am more interested in reliability and reasonably economical for 2.0 litre than extreme power or comfort.

You are looking at the wrong car then. The pre 2014 facelift Insignia was one of the worst cars regarding reliability.

Also these were popular as fleet rep mobiles in the UK so I'd be vary of any 8 year old diesel Vauxhall Insignia with only 100k miles on the clock unless it has undisputed history to back it up.

I've had a 2009 Elite hatchback, and I'm currently in a 152 SRi saloon, two very different cars. I won't be adding a third, hoping to move up into something a little more luxury next year. The Elite was a grand comfortable motorway car and apart from a constant tracking problem and a faulty boot release it was relatively reliable, but hit 100K km and the flywheel went, which is apparently common. I opted to move to the SRi rather than spent 1.5K to repair the older car, which I still regret. It's not as comfortable, the switch from hatchback to saloon was murder for my cargo options, and it's just an inferior spec to sit in. Funnily enough, it has the same tracking problem but not as severe. I've not had any other issues with it.

I found both decent economy wise, the Elite more so because I was doing an amount of motorway driving at the time.

Renault Laguna. It's a smaller diesel engine as it's a 1.5 litre but perfectly adequate and very reliable and they are a very classy car especially in the right colour and spec.
A Ford Mondeo or a Skoda Suberb would be other options both good cars.

    Ye but so very boring.

Peugeot 508 is another good option.

Mondeo/Volvo S60, Hyundai I40/ Kia Optima, wouldn't touch an Insignia for any money

Don't think youd get a 12 one for that money
