Hi guys this is my first post and I’m hoping for solid opinions.
I hope to buy a 3.0 Audi A6 or BMW 330d in the next year or so, 2015-2017 reg. my concern is the future tax etc on 3.0 engines. Ie will there be a tax increase? With the phasing out of diesel in the coming years are they going to become a lot more expensive to run? Is there anything else I should be taking in to consideration?
Any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

The car will be on the scrapheap long before diesel is gone. Budget is out Tuesday. I wouldn't personally let a bit of tax increase turn me off a car I wanted. If you're worried about tax you'd easily cover any tax increases by the simple action of buying a 16 car instead of a 17 car or a 15 instead of a 16 etc..
Tax is not levied on engine size anymore either. You're talking in the hundreds over a few years even if there is a tax increase and the cars you are looking at are in the 20k+ price bracket, tax increases won't be material to total running expenses.

It's not going to go anything like the way of the old CC tax. I'd expect equalisation of price of diesel with petrol and perhaps a fixed percentage increase increase in motor tax across the board on all ICE cars.

They may ofcourse decide to discourage imports of used diesels with additional VRT or NOX levy's.

Yeah agree with above post. Think they may increase emisssions motor tax a few percent, but an irrelevance, considering most pay virtually nothing in motor tax anyway. They should start new motor tax system , petrol minimum 400 a year imo and diesel minimum 600

    .........BMW 330d.......

Not all 6 cylinders are V6, FYI ......... the 330d is an example.

Anyway.......... carbon tax and increases in motor tax will be phased over the coming years. 2.5c/litre on diesel from tomorrow afaik .......... nothing major.

2015-2017 reg. my concern is the future tax etc on 3.0 engines............. you've little to worry about all considered IMO.

Interesting about the 330d not been 6 cylinder, you learn something new every day!

    Thanks again

Thank you all for replying to my question, my mind is more at ease for my future purchase.

I currently have an Audi A4 170bhp Quattro that’s remapped to just over 210 bhp, I think I’m more swaying toward the A6!

    Thanks again for the replies.

    It is a 6 cylinder, but it’s an inline 6 rather than a V6.

I think I should have called this thread “the future of 3.0 Diesel engines” 😅
