I am seriously disappointed with what I experienced today. I went out to buy what I could/knew the kid wanted. Everything was sold out (staff made no effort to get my details - which I would have given) - went to Smyth's for the small bits (queue was mental so didn't do it) I bought everything on amazon tonight (against my better wishes)!- I really didn't want to do that this year but irish shops are unbelievably backwards - spend 500 on what I didn't want to do

I think a lot of people have started earlier and might have caught some retailers off guard. I’d say this is getting to the busy time, but December will be a lot more calm. I’ve gotten the big ones out of the way already and would normally hang on for Black Friday, but not this year. Always something in this house is a nightmare to get at Christmas, I’d say it would be a lot worse this year. Would rather buy local, but if I can’t get what I need, I’ll go elsewhere

I reckon the staff didn't take details was moreso along the lines of, they haven't a clue themselves what the next couple of weeks or months will look like. Taking details might give the customer false hope that an item will arrive or could be restocked. I can see your frustration but as of now, no one knows if they are coming or going.

It's a bit of a pain to spend more than you hoped for and having to look online. I had plans this year to avoid online buying and wrapping presents as I went along when I bought them in the shops but I'm not risking anything or having any delays.

I spent all of yesterday and this morning buying all I needed and wanted to buy for people I needed to buy for in a couple of online shops (I even got a couple of discounts which probably worked out better for me) The only bits I really need is the niggly bits like chocolates and cards but they wouldn't be a huge disappointment if not bought. I spent more than I wanted too myself but at least I know as of today, all is said and bought and I can relax a little bit.

And hopefully things won't turn as ar$eways as people expect it too. This Christmas might be a strange one for sure.

One shopping trip and you are not lorded on by stressed out staff and you tar every Irish shop as backwards.?

    Seriously?

And you expect staff to take your details and then check deliveries everyday for different items you want - on a crazy busy sunday?

    Really?

Did the great Amazon hold your hand when you were shopping and promise you a personal phone call when something that you wanted but could not find on their site was going to come in?

People like you are best off out of shops and expecting staff to lord over you
