Titanium back up might be an option but youd need both to be rooted.

Dr Fone doesn't need root. Anyone used?

Nope, give it a go. Personally, I think switching phones is a good time to start fresh, and migrating data directly between devices can sometimes lead to issues such as rogue apps, corrupted data etc.

At the end of the day, switching between phones and setting up is pretty painless anyway. I switch between phones pretty regularly, and have nova launcher backup which I restore on a new device, then I install any missing apps from my home screen from there.

All photos/messages are backed up on the cloud as well, so I restore them if I want to, but sometimes I don't even bother.

TWRP can image a phone alright but you can't move such an image between hardware.

Really what you are trying to achieve is not possible in the way you think. You just need to set everything to back up to google etc including your launcher of choice. Mine is lawnchair v2. Use sms backup and restore for sms just in case google doesn't carry them over.

Haven't used dr fone in years tbh so I can't remember. Provided you did a simple google backup via the google drive app it should copy over sms. No need for dr fone.

Just use sms backup and restore.

I don't send a whole lot of texts, but have this set up to auto backup everything to my Google drive.

Why use an Android, but no Google products?

In any case, you can backup to other cloud services, or a local file.

I'd be more concerned about dr fone than google but each to their own.

That can be done. As you say, it's your business the way you do things, but you're making things harder for yourself. If you really want to avoid Google, then your phone needs to go in the bin.

    i need to be contacted

You don't need an Android phone, or even a smart phone, to be contacted.

You need to be contacted via which apps? Or is it just old fashioned calls and sms you will be using?

I imagine an image from one phone wouldn't work on another due to different hardware, drivers, whatever tweaks they've made to android itself etc.

Your lack of trust in Google also makes it a lot more ballache to back up settings as well.

    Strong case of PEBCAK.
